RenewablesSA recognises an effective role for State Government is to support the creation and dissemination of better quality information to assist potential investors. This section of the website provides information to inform investment in renewable energy, including information about South Australia's world class renewable resources and key infrastructure supporting the deployment of renewable energy.
Over time, this section of the website will be expanded with further case studies providing information to assist in the uptake of new technologies. This includes outcomes of Government supported demonstrations of new technologies and how they perform in the field.
The uptake of certain technologies may be inhibited by a lack of information the performance of new technologies. This is particularly true of decentralised technologies such as solar panels, micro wind turbines, solar thermal applications and co-generation.
The South Australian Government has aspirations to be the nation's leading 'test bed' of emerging small scale renewable applications. Supporting roll-out of these technologies can improve social acceptance of their use. Through a number of initiatives, the South Australian Government has committed to supporting the use of renewable technologies on their own assets or sponsoring their use by others.
At the other end of the scale, the Government is supporting large-scale renewable energy investment through its purchases of GreenPower. Since 1 January 2008 the State Government has been purchasing enough GreenPower to meet 20% of its energy needs and has a commitment to purchasing renewable energy for 50% of the Government's own electricity needs by 2014 (Target 65 under the South Australian Strategic Plan).
